It's not confusing at all really.

jungle/dnb 150-175
trance 130-160

techno 120-140
2step - 130-140
uk garage - 125-135
dubstep - 135-140
house 120-135

hip hop 85-100
dancehall 85-100
dub 60-80

forget hipsters and genre's for a moment. i'm not sayin this is the reason that the sound is gaining ground, but its something to consider. there's a whole lot of people that like dancing at 125-140 bpm. halfstep of 140 is 70, and this has been what people have played with in dubstep beat building for 6 years now. a 140 halftime beat, has all those reggae and hip hop people nodding as well.

Gaining ground?

The scene and genre are already on the decline from I hear.

Dubstep is cool for what it is and the people that dig it are all good. But it's NOT gonna be what D&B was and still is. Dubstep is just another 120-140 BPM genre that's easy to understand (cuz it's trying to sound like EDM's Hip-Hop) and mixable with many other genres in that BPM range so it appeals to people just like House and slower tempo things do.

In a few years it'll be forgotten like 2-Step, Speed Garage, etc. , etc...

Doesn't have enough to stand on it's own like Jungle/ D&B did and still has, it's that simple.

I personally have rejected a bunch of movements in D+B - excessive repetative 2 step/speed garagie stuff - overdone darkness..

but I am having this one..alot of Dubstep is excellent..

What I've been hearing alot lately - is minimal stripped down glitchy type beats w/just quality spacey soul/samples and synths..

I called it gangster blip..

listen SUBFM right now - burnin' up redo (skream again) with lovely new style amen mash-up..wicked vocal delay @2:38 - atmospheric, heady..love it - is being mixed with Taal Mala...

Link

loving some Joy Orbison..

Link

hehe...if you call yourself a junglist and can't get down to this..something is wrong..

This is my point, thank you.

That Skream thing is WACK, just slowed down Jungle and all of you know it. Only reason why Shy FX is releasing it is to bank off of Skream's popularity right now. That shit Jungle, slow Jungle... Dubstep my ass.

i fucking love joy orbison

oh and its all the same thing . forget about what you think you "know as dubstep" . that just sounds so silly to me . "what i know as dubstep" ... how about all the million subgenres of jungle that sound nothing like eachother and share nothing but a bpm range? do people care? for the most part, no

when i die , its gonna be a giant rave in the sky, everyones gonna be there , and its gonna be 1 dj playing everything , with no genres.

relax taco...u dont have to defend dubstep to me...i actually dont give a shit what genre the tunes fall under...if its good its good...i dont doubt that there is a 100 diff. sub generes of dubstep...dont really care either...what im saying is...from my limited knowledge of dubstep....i just wouldnt think those 3 tunes are dubstep....based on what ive heard...how is that silly? it actually makes perfect sense...im just saying what it sounds like to me...as far as jungle/drum n bass....i have no problem being able to tell what is and what isnt drum n bass regardless of a genre (liquid, tech step, hardstep etc etc)...i actually think labeling a tune to a specific genre is corny...cause it puts limitations on the music...
