You know who wrote 'Because the Night' with Patti Smith?
someone even worse than bruce springsteen?

Actually arguable the most important female artist post Janis Joplin, one of the architects of punk rock, and certainly one of the destroyers of male white corporate cock rock oppression. None of her shit came out on Moving Shadow and Marvel hasn't made a comic book about her though so I'm not surprised it slipped past your radar.

I think I've just decided that I can't fuck guys who don't know who Patti Smith is.
Thanks guys for helping me raise the bar! Now who wants to motorboat me in the back of the Stone Pony this weekend?? I don't do coke anymore, but you can use my cleavage as your mirror anytime!!

fuck you. there's several of you guys on here that have made similar comments about me having nothing but comics and jungle in my life. just because i don't delve into rock-based music from a certain time period you all love, that doesn't mean all i know is dieselboy and stan lee.
when's the last time anyone here started a jazz thread? a classical thread? a late 90's downtempo thread? if i wanted to sound like your presumptuous ass, i could argue that it means you know nothing about these things, just druggies with guitars that are dead now. i don't know who patti smith is because i don't dig a lot of guitar-based music, that doesn't mean im clueless as a music lover or a lover of entertainment as a whole.

I couldn't have said it better myself!
Seriously, somebody put this thread in Time Out.
Oh, right. Um. Yeah. Ok I'm stumped.
We busted out of class had to get away from those fools
We learned more from a three minute record than we ever learned in school
Tonight I hear the neighborhood drummer sound
I can feel my heart begin to pound
You say you're tired and you just want to close your eyes and follow your dreams down
We made a promise we swore we'd always remember
No retreat no surrender
Like soldiers in the winter's night with a vow to defend
No retreat no surrender
Now young faces grow sad and old and hearts of fire grow cold
We swore blood brothers against the wind
I'm ready to grow young again
And hear your sister's voice calling us home across the open yards
Well maybe we could cut someplace of our own
With these drums and these guitars
Blood brothers in the stormy night with a vow to defend
No retreat no surrender
Now on the street tonight the lights grow dim
The walls of my room are closing in
There's a war outside still raging
you say it ain't ours anymore to win
I want to sleep beneath peaceful skies in my lover's bed
with a wide open country in my eyes
and these romantic dreams in my head

You left out abrassive, ego-maniacal, irresponsible, white trash, fat ass, coon-ass,incorrigible, misanthropic, disrespectful, stubborn, and offensive smelling. Patti Smith died for your sins. *
Baby was a black sheep. Baby was a whore.
Baby got big and baby get bigger.
Baby get something. Baby get more.
Baby, baby, baby was a rock-and-roll nigger.
Oh, look around you, all around you,
riding on a copper wave.
Do you like the world around you?
Are you ready to behave?
Outside of society, they're waitin' for me.
Outside of society, that's where I want to be.

You know she got big. Well, she's gonna get bigger.
Baby got a hand; got a finger on the trigger.
Baby, baby, baby is a rock-and-roll nigger.
Outside of society, that's where I want to be.
Outside of society, they're waitin' for me.

I was lost in a valley of pleasure.
I was lost in the infinite sea.
I was lost, and measure for measure,
love spewed from the heart of me.
I was lost, and the cost,
and the cost didn't matter to me.
I was lost, and the cost
was to be outside society.
Jimi Hendrix was a nigger.
Jesus Christ and Grandma, too.
Jackson Pollock was a nigger.
Nigger, nigger, nigger, nigger,
nigger, nigger, nigger.
Outside of society, they're waitin' for me.
Outside of society, if you're looking,
that's where you'll find me.
Outside of society, they're waitin' for me.
Outside of society. (Repeat)
*Patti Smith is not dead, the song posted above while offensive to some is actually one of the first attempts by a white singer/songwriter to nullify the effects of racism in such a direct and confrontational way and actual expands on the word "nigger" to include anyone marked as downtrodden or outside the norm (I hope all of this would be fairly evident in the lyrics ). Seems dated now to be sure but back in '78 when the album Easter (which this tune is on, along with Because the Night) was released tunes like this were a lightning rod. An unfortunate side effect of confrontational and iconoclastic music penned within the punk rock community regarding race lead to certain groups attempting to "out offend" each other and left a small opening for dumbass racist nonsense to trickle in and help to establish racist skinhead screeds by such pieces of shit such as Skrewdriver and there ilk. Obviously the irony was lost on these goose stepping jackasses. However, THAT is another tale for another time I recon. Sorry for the hijack Bruce, now back to more appreciation for The Boss
I'm telling you - you don't have to be a fan, you don't even have to like him or his music, but he's a fucking artist. He makes shit happen.
like what, my dog putting his paws over his ears? calm down, sheesh.
also, not every singer or band that isn't Prince or Celine Dion is punk rock. I'm so sick of reading or hearing how everyone under the sun from the 70s, and even 60s was at the forefront of the punk movement
"The Velvet Underground started punk blah blah blah..." bullshit. Using that reasoning, you could say Elvis started punk, then take it back even further and say Charlie Parker was actually OG punk rock. it's ludicrous. _________________ Sentience Tranquility Daydream Light In The Sky Mix
