also, not every singer or band that isn't Prince or Celine Dion is punk rock. I'm so sick of reading or hearing how everyone under the sun from the 70s, and even 60s was at the forefront of the punk movement

"The Velvet Underground started punk blah blah blah..." bullshit. Using that reasoning, you could say Elvis started punk, then take it back even further and say Charlie Parker was actually OG punk rock. it's ludicrous.

Patti Smith isn't a stretch, there's a reason she's "The Godmother of Punk". She and Television (and later Richard Hell and the Voidoids) were the exact launching pad for the Ramones.

I was sayin let me out of here before I was
even born--it's such a gamble when you get a face
It's fascinatin to observe what the mirror does
but when I dine it's for the wall that I set a place

I belong to the blank generation and
I can take it or leave it each time
I belong to the ______ generation but
I can take it or leave it each time

Triangles were fallin at the window as the doctor cursed
He was a cartoon long forsaken by the public eye
The nurse adjusted her garters as I breathed my first
The doctor grabbed my throat and yelled, "God's consolation prize!"

I belong to the blank generation and
I can take it or leave it each time
I belong to the ______ generation but
I can take it or leave it each time

To hold the t.v. to my lips, the air so packed with cash
then carry it up flights of stairs and drop it in the vacant lot
To lose my train of thought and fall into your arms' tracks
and watch beneath the eyelids every passing dot

I belong to the blank generation and
I can take it or leave it each time
I belong to the ______ generation but
I can take it or leave it each time

I belong to the blank generation and
I can take it or leave it each time
I belong to the ______ generation but
I can take it or leave it each time

From The Onion:

Quote:
PHILADELPHIA—A recent Bruce Springsteen free acoustic set on Philadelphia's Ben Franklin Parkway completely changed the mind of sales associate Grant Garlock regarding the basic democratic process of voting, sources reported Monday. "It hadn't really occurred to me until Bruce said it, but when you think about it, voting really is the most important right we have as Americans," said Garlock, 38, who for various reasons ranging from scheduling mishaps to pure apathy has not voted in a local, state, or national election since 1988. "I used to think that my vote didn't count, but now I realize the Boss was right when he said, 'Every vote counts.'" On Nov. 4, Garlock plans to vote for John McCain because he thinks Sarah Palin is hot.

You guys don't even know. Seriously. I'm about to test whether Bruce can be targeted for specific ends, like breaking up a functional relationship. And signs are good so far.

The only thing I seriously know is that that chump represents everything I was trying to avoid in the 80s: a horrible pop singer playing horrible pop music.

The more I think of this thread and it's allusions to anything remotely punk rock, the more hopeless I feel about the future of humanity.
